Levels chart

Our levels guide consists of 5 levels from
0.00 (Complete beginner) to 4.00 (Autonomous).

Each description is in 2 parts : firstly the candidate’s linguisitic performance
(), secondly the limitations specific to this ability ().

The Citylangues levels guide enables you to :

Understand the level given to a candidate.
Get to know his or her language ability and limitations in a professional context.
In liaison with Citylangues, set an objective for the student and put in place an appropriate training course.
Fix the language level required for each position in your company; this can then be used for recruitment purposes or for internal transfers.

What is the gap between two levels ?

To move from one level to another requires approximately 160 hours of tuition (for instance to progress from level 1.00 to level 2.00). However, the number of hours can vary considerably depending on several factors: the target language, the use of the language in the student’s work, personal study carried out by the student, to name but three.

• Each level is divided into four stages: 0.00 – 0.25, 0.25 –0.50, 0.50 – 0.75, 0.75 – 1.00 and so on. Thus, a student starting at level 1.75 aiming to reach level 2.00 will need to follow 40 hours of tuition.
